Smart home system:
analysis of the advantages and disadvantages for several wireless technologies
Smart home wired solutions not only have the advantages of reliability and performance, but also have the disadvantages that are difficult to overcome, such as complicated wiring, high cost, and poor convenience. Currently in the European and American markets, wireless technology has gradually occupied the mainstream of smart homes.
RF wireless radio frequency technology is a short-distance, low-complexity, low-power, low-data-rate, and low-cost wireless communication technology. The advantage of this technology is that some products do not need to be re-wired, and point-to-point radio frequency technology is used to realize the control of home appliances and lights. The installation and settings are more convenient. It is mainly used to realize the control of certain specific appliances or lights, and the cost is moderate. This type of system has relatively weak functions, relatively simple control methods, and is susceptible to interference and shielding from the surrounding wireless equipment environment, especially the same frequency and obstructions, and is more suitable for newly decorated households and households that have been renovated.
Bluetooth technology was originally created by Ericsson. On May 20, 1999, industry leaders such as Sony Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba established the Bluetooth Special Interest Group to formulate Bluetooth technology standards. Bluetooth is a new type of wireless transmission protocol used for wireless connection between different devices, such as connecting computers and peripherals.
Bluetooth provides a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint wireless link based on the concept of a network. The status of all devices within any effective communication range is equal. The device that first proposes communication requirements is called the master device, and the device that passively communicates is called the slave device (Slaver). Using time division multiple access (TDMA), a master device can communicate with up to 7 slave devices at the same time and keep synchronization with multiple slave devices (up to 200) without communicating. A network composed of one master device and more than one slave device is called a Bluetooth Pico network.
If there is inter-device communication between two or more pico networks, it constitutes a Bluetooth Scatternet. Based on the principle of TDMA and the equality of Bluetooth devices, any Bluetooth device can act as both a master and a slave in the network, and can also serve as both a master and a slave at the same time. Therefore, it is a typical non-central network with a natural and flexible networking method. The Bluetooth network has the characteristics of Adhoc, and each device can easily enter and leave the network without additional network configuration. Just to complete the appropriate network functions, there must be a certain amount of initial configuration work.
Although Bluetooth technology is currently a more advanced wireless network technology and has gradually become popular in the interoperability of many devices, for many consumer electronic devices, using it as an alternative to cables is still very costly and power consumption. It's hardly satisfactory.
Zigbee is currently the fastest growing and most widely used wireless transmission technology in the field of smart homes. It has the characteristics of close range, low complexity, low power consumption, low data rate, and low cost. It is mainly suitable for the field of automatic control and remote control, and can meet the wireless networking and control functions of small and inexpensive devices.
For home network communication, the amount of data transmitted is small, and there is no need for too high requirements on the transmission rate. The capacity of the network should be large, and there are many kinds of electrical equipment in the family. The real-time information is good, the time delay is short, and the cost is low. Compared with various existing wireless communication technologies, Zigbee technology is one of the technologies with the lowest power consumption and cost, and it satisfies the needs of smart homes well.
Wi-Fi is a technology that can wirelessly connect terminals such as personal computers and handheld devices (such as PDAs and mobile phones) to each other. Wi-Fi is a brand of wireless network communication technology, held by Wi-Fi Alliance (Wi-Fi Alliance), with the purpose of improving the interoperability between wireless network products based on the IEEE 802.11 standard.
